Product Description
Work rolls and backup rolls are the heart of any rolling mill, subjected to immense pressures, high temperatures, and severe abrasive wear. The quality of these rolls directly dictates the quality of the finished product and the efficiency of the entire production line.
Yile Machinery is a specialized manufacturer of high-strength forged steel mill rolls. We engineer and produce custom work rolls and backup rolls designed for maximum durability and extended campaigns in steel, aluminum, and other demanding rolling applications.
A forged roll provides a significant performance advantage over cast alternatives. Our manufacturing process creates a component with a dense, homogenous internal structure, free from defects and optimized for strength.
Material Selection & Forging: We begin with premium quality alloy steel ingots, such as 42CrMo (AISI 4140/4142) , 34CrNiMo6, or other custom grades. The material is heated and forged under a high-tonnage press, refining the grain structure and aligning it for superior toughness and fatigue resistance.
Advanced Heat Treatment: The roll's performance is locked in through a multi-stage heat treatment process:
Quenching & Tempering (Q&T): This foundational step develops the roll's core strength and toughness, allowing it to withstand immense rolling forces without failure.
Surface Induction Hardening: The working surface (the "barrel") of the roll is induction hardened to achieve a very high surface hardness (typically HRC 58-62). This creates an exceptionally wear-resistant layer to maintain surface quality and profile over long periods.
Precision Grinding & Finishing: The final step is precision grinding. The roll barrel and journals (shaft ends) are ground to exacting dimensional tolerances and surface finish specifications, ensuring smooth operation, proper bearing fit, and a high-quality rolled product.
Exceptional Wear Resistance: High surface hardness from induction hardening minimizes wear and extends the time between roll changes and regrinds.
Superior Strength & Fatigue Life: The forged and heat-treated microstructure provides outstanding resistance to spalling, cracking, and roll breakage.
Custom Engineering: We manufacture rolls to your exact specifications, including material, hardness profile, and dimensions, as either monobloc (integrated shaft) or assembled designs.
Improved Product Quality: The high precision and stability of our rolls translate to better gauge control and surface finish on your final product.
Our forged rolls are engineered for a variety of rolling mill types and applications:
Hot & Cold Rolling Mills: For steel, aluminum, copper, and other metals.
Section & Bar Mills: For producing structural shapes and long products.
Plate Mills: For heavy plate production.
Paper Mill Rolls: For calendering and processing.
