Product Description
In any rolling mill, the work roll is the point of contact—the component that directly shapes the metal. Its performance dictates the quality of the final product and the efficiency of the entire line. The demands are immense: extreme pressure, high temperatures, and abrasive wear.
Yile Machinery specializes in the manufacture of high-chromium forged steel work rolls, engineered to deliver superior surface finish, exceptional wear resistance, and maximum campaign life in the most demanding rolling applications.
The longevity of a work roll begins with its material. We utilize premium, high-chromium tool steels that are specifically designed for this application.
Forged for Ultimate Strength: Every work roll starts as a forged blank. The forging process creates a dense, refined grain structure, eliminating internal defects and providing superior toughness and fatigue resistance to prevent catastrophic failure under load.
Premium Material Grades:
9Cr2Mo (or similar): A widely used and trusted material for cold rolling work rolls, offering an excellent balance of high hardness, wear resistance, and toughness.
86CrMoV7, MC3, MC5: Advanced alloy steels providing enhanced performance characteristics for specific applications, such as high-speed or high-reduction rolling.
A work roll's ability to resist wear and maintain its profile is determined by its hardness. Our multi-stage heat treatment process is precisely controlled to achieve optimal metallurgical properties.
Quenching & Tempering: The entire forged roll undergoes a full-body heat treatment to develop a tough, resilient core structure.
Differential Induction Hardening: The roll barrel (the working surface) is subjected to a secondary induction hardening process. This creates an extremely hard and deep working layer (up to HRC 62-66) for maximum wear resistance, while the roll necks and core remain softer and more ductile to absorb operational stresses.
The result is a roll that can withstand millions of revolutions without significant wear, ensuring consistent product quality.
The final geometry and surface finish of the work roll are critical. Our precision manufacturing ensures flawless performance.
CNC Grinding: The roll barrel, necks (bearing journals), and drive-end flange are ground on high-precision CNC machines.
Perfect Geometry: We guarantee exceptional concentricity, cylindricity, and runout to ensure stable operation at high speeds.
Controlled Surface Finish (Ra): The roll barrel is ground to the specific surface roughness (Ra) required for your application, from a matte finish for temper rolling to a mirror polish for skin pass mills.
Dynamic Balancing: All rolls are dynamically balanced to eliminate vibration, protecting your mill's bearings and chocks.
Our forged work rolls are the premier choice for:
Cold Rolling Mills (4-Hi, 6-Hi, Cluster Mills)
Temper Mills / Skin Pass Mills
Rolling of Ferrous Metals (Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel)
Rolling of Non-Ferrous Metals (Aluminum, Copper, Brass)
Provide your roll drawing, material specifications, and application details. Our engineering team is ready to deliver a replacement or OEM work roll that will enhance your mill's performance.
