Product Description

A spline shaft is the cornerstone of mechanical power transmission, designed to transfer torque to mating components like gears, pulleys, and hubs. For applications demanding maximum strength and fatigue resistance, a forged and machined spline shaft is the only reliable choice.

Yile Machinery manufactures high-performance, custom spline shafts from forged steel. We specialize in producing long, complex shafts with precision-cut splines to meet your exact engineering specifications.

The Foundation of Strength: The Forging Process

The durability of a shaft begins with its material and initial forming process. Unlike shafts machined from standard bar stock, our spline shafts start as solid forged billets.

The forging process plastically deforms the steel under immense pressure, refining the grain structure and aligning it to the shape of the shaft. This results in a component with:

  • Superior Strength & Toughness: Eliminates internal voids and creates a dense, uniform structure.

  • Exceptional Fatigue Resistance: The continuous grain flow provides outstanding durability against cyclic loading and torsional stress.

  • High-Quality Materials: We typically use high-strength alloy steels such as AISI 4140 (42CrMo) , AISI 4340 (34CrNiMo6) , and other specified grades to ensure performance under extreme loads.

Precision Machining for a Perfect Fit

After forging, the shaft undergoes a multi-stage precision machining process to achieve its final, exact dimensions.

  1. Rough & Finish Turning: The shaft is turned on a CNC lathe to establish the correct diameters, steps, and bearing journals.

  2. Spline Cutting: This is the most critical step. Using advanced gear hobbing or spline milling machines, we cut the external splines (involute, straight-sided, or serrated) with exceptional accuracy to guarantee a perfect, zero-backlash fit with your mating part.

  3. Heat Treatment: To achieve the required hardness and wear resistance, the shaft can undergo various heat treatments, including quenching & tempering for through-hardness or induction hardening for a hard, wear-resistant spline surface with a tough, ductile core.

  4. Precision Grinding: For applications requiring the highest accuracy, the shaft journals and spline profiles can be precision ground after heat treatment to achieve tight tolerances and an excellent surface finish.

Our Capabilities: Long, Complex, and Custom Shafts

We are equipped to manufacture shafts that many others cannot.

  • Long Shaft Manufacturing: Our facilities and expertise allow us to produce extra-long spline shafts for large-scale machinery.

  • Complex Geometries: We can machine multiple spline sections, keyways, threads, and journals on a single shaft.

  • Made to Your Drawing: We work directly from your technical drawings to produce a component that integrates seamlessly into your assembly.
