Product Description
Yile Machinery engineers and manufactures heavy-duty worm gear sets for reliable, high-ratio, right-angle power transmission. A worm gear drive consists of a worm (the screw/shaft) and a worm wheel (the gear). We produce complete, matched sets tailored to your specific torque, speed, and application requirements.
Worm gear sets are the preferred solution for many industrial applications due to their distinct characteristics:
Extremely High Reduction Ratios: A single worm gear stage can achieve reduction ratios of 30:1, 60:1, 100:1, or even higher, something that would require multiple stages of spur gearing.
Self-Locking Capability: In many high-ratio designs, the worm can drive the wheel, but the wheel cannot drive the worm. This inherent braking feature is a critical safety and control element in applications like lifts, hoists, and conveyors.
Smooth and Quiet Operation: The continuous sliding contact between the worm thread and the wheel teeth results in exceptionally smooth, low-vibration power transmission.
The performance and lifespan of a worm gear set depend entirely on the correct pairing of materials between the worm and the wheel. We offer solutions for different performance and budget requirements.
The Worm (Shaft) - Hardened Alloy Steel:
The worm is subjected to intense sliding friction and must be significantly harder than the wheel. We typically use high-grade alloy steels like 42CrMo or case-hardening steels like 20CrMnTi. The worm undergoes heat treatment (e.g., carburizing or induction hardening) followed by precision grinding of the threads to create an extremely hard and smooth surface.
The Worm Wheel (Gear) - Bronze or Cast Iron:
The wheel is made from a softer material to ensure it is the sacrificial component in the system.
Bronze (High-Performance Choice): For high loads and continuous duty, materials like tin bronze or aluminum bronze are superior. Bronze offers excellent low-friction properties and wear resistance when paired with a hardened steel worm.
Cast Iron (Cost-Effective Solution): For lower-speed, lower-load, or intermittent applications, high-grade cast iron (e.g., ductile iron) is a reliable and economical choice. It provides good service life in the right application.
Design & Material Selection: We work with your specifications to select the optimal materials and design parameters.
CNC Machining: The worm shaft and wheel blank are precision-machined from certified raw materials.
Gear & Thread Generation:
Worm Wheel: Teeth are cut using specialized gear hobbing machines.
Worm Shaft: The screw thread is generated through CNC milling or thread grinding.
Heat Treatment: The steel worm is hardened and tempered to achieve the required surface hardness and core toughness.
Precision Grinding: The worm threads and critical shaft surfaces are ground to a fine finish to minimize friction and ensure perfect meshing.
Quality Control: Each worm and wheel is inspected for dimensional accuracy, tooth profile, and surface finish to guarantee performance as a matched set.
Our custom worm gear sets are used in a wide range of machinery:
Conveyor Systems
Lifts, Elevators, and Hoists
Industrial Presses
Machine Tool Indexing Heads
Rudder Control Systems
Rolling Mills
