Product Description

In applications like steel rolling mills, mine hoists, or cement kilns, the failure of a main drive shaft is catastrophic. These shafts must transmit immense torque while withstanding constant shock loads and vibration. A standard shaft, or one with press-fit or welded gears, presents a critical weak point.

Yile Machinery specializes in manufacturing monolithic gear and spline shafts, where the gear, splines, and shaft body are forged and machined from a single piece of high-strength alloy steel. This one-piece design eliminates weak points, ensuring maximum strength, torsional rigidity, and operational reliability.

The Power of Monolithic Design: Gear, Spline, and Shaft in One

Why is a one-piece forged shaft superior?

  • Unbroken Grain Flow: Forging aligns the steel's internal grain structure to the shape of the entire component, including the gear teeth. This creates a continuous flow of strength from the shaft through the gear, dramatically increasing fatigue resistance.

  • No Welds or Keyways: Welds can introduce heat-affected zones and become points of failure. Keyways create sharp corners that act as stress risers. Our one-piece design has neither, making it inherently stronger.

  • Perfect Concentricity: Machining the entire shaft in a single setup ensures perfect concentricity between the bearing journals, the gear pitch circle, and the splines. This results in smoother operation, less vibration, and longer bearing life.

Our Manufacturing Capabilities for Complex Drive Shafts

From raw steel to the finished component, we control every step to guarantee quality.

1. Forging & Heat Treatment

We start with certified alloy steels like 42CrMo, 34CrNiMo6, or 18CrNiMo7-6. The material is forged to shape and then subjected to specialized heat treatments (such as Quenching & Tempering) to achieve the ideal balance of core toughness and surface hardness required for gear and bearing surfaces.

2. Precision Gear Cutting

Our gear machining capabilities include:

  • Gear Hobbing & Shaping: For creating precise spur, helical, or double-helical gear teeth.

  • Gear Grinding: For achieving the highest level of accuracy and an ultra-fine surface finish, resulting in quieter, more efficient power transmission.

3. Spline Milling & Hobbing

We machine high-precision involute or straight-sided splines for a perfect, no-slip connection with mating components.

4. Precision Grinding & Finishing

All bearing journals and sealing surfaces are ground to tight tolerances and a smooth surface finish (low Ra) to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Applications Across Heavy Industry

Our custom-engineered gear shafts are the backbone of powerful machinery in:

  • Steel & Metal Processing: Rolling mill pinion stands, gearbox main shafts, coiler and uncoiler drive shafts.

  • Mining & Materials Handling: Crusher pinion shafts, conveyor main drive shafts, hoist and winch drum shafts.

  • Cement & Aggregates: Kiln and ball mill drive pinion shafts.

  • Power Generation: Gearbox shafts for wind turbines and industrial generators.

  • Marine Propulsion: Main propulsion gear shafts.

Quality Assurance is Our Guarantee

  • Forging Inspection: All forgings are Ultrasonically Tested (UT) to ensure they are free from internal defects.

  • Material Certification: Full chemical and mechanical test reports are supplied with every shaft.

  • Post-Machining Inspection: We use Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) to verify surface integrity.

  • Full Dimensional Report: We provide a comprehensive inspection report confirming all dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes meet the drawing specifications.
