Product Description
The marine propeller shaft is the final and most critical link in a vessel's propulsion system, transferring engine power to the propeller. Operating in the harsh marine environment, it must withstand immense torsional stress, bending forces, and corrosion. Reliability is paramount; a shaft failure at sea can be catastrophic.
Yile Machinery is a specialist manufacturer of custom forged and machined propeller shafts, intermediate shafts, and tail shafts, engineered for ultimate reliability in commercial, industrial, and naval applications.
The driveline of a ship consists of several interconnected shafts. We have the capability to manufacture the complete shaft line:
Thrust Shaft: Absorbs the axial thrust from the propeller.
Intermediate Shafts: Long shafts that connect the gearbox to the tail shaft.
Propeller Shaft (or Tail Shaft): The final shaft that passes through the stern tube, supports the propeller, and is partially exposed to seawater.
We manufacture each shaft to the highest standards, ensuring perfect alignment and power transmission across the entire system.
Every marine shaft we produce follows a rigorous manufacturing and quality assurance process designed to meet or exceed the stringent standards of marine classification societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register).
We begin with certified, high-strength forged steel billets. Forging creates a refined, continuous grain structure that provides superior fatigue resistance and strength compared to standard bar stock. Common materials include:
High-Strength Alloy Steels: 42CrMo4 (AISI 4140) , 34CrNiMo6 (AISI 4340)
Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steels: Duplex and Super Duplex grades for maximum corrosion protection.
The forged shaft is precision machined to exact specifications. Our large-capacity CNC lathes and milling machines create all critical features with exceptional accuracy:
Propeller Taper: Machined and lapped for a perfect blue-fit with the propeller hub.
Bearing Journals: Ground to a fine surface finish for long bearing life.
Flanges: Machined for perfect alignment with mating shafts or the gearbox coupling.
Every shaft undergoes comprehensive non-destructive testing (NDT) to guarantee its integrity:
Ultrasonic Testing (UT): To ensure the forging is free from any internal defects.
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT): To verify the surface is free of cracks.
Dimensional Inspection: A full dimensional report is generated to confirm all measurements are within tolerance.
