Product Description

In high-torque, low-speed power transmission systems, the worm and wheel set is unmatched. The worm wheel is a critical component, designed to withstand immense sliding friction and torque. Its material quality and manufacturing precision directly determine the reliability and service life of the entire gearbox.

Yile Machinery specializes in the engineering and production of large-scale bronze worm wheels for the most demanding industrial environments, including steel mills, mining equipment, and heavy-duty machinery.

The Material Advantage: Superior Bronze Alloys

The pairing of a hardened steel worm with a bronze worm wheel is a classic engineering solution. The bronze acts as a sacrificial, self-lubricating surface, protecting the more complex and expensive steel worm from wear. We utilize premium bronze alloys specifically chosen for this purpose:

  • Tin Bronze (Phosphor Bronze, e.g., ZCuSn10Pb1, CuSn12): The traditional choice for worm wheels, offering an excellent balance of wear resistance and low friction. Ideal for high-speed and high-load applications.

  • Aluminum Bronze (e.g., ZCuAl9Fe4, C95400): Offers superior strength, hardness, and wear resistance compared to tin bronzes. It is the preferred material for applications with extremely high loads and lower speeds where durability is paramount.

Centrifugal Casting: The Gold Standard for Bronze Gears

To ensure maximum material integrity, we manufacture our worm wheel blanks using the centrifugal casting method. This process is vastly superior to sand casting or static casting.

How it works: Molten bronze is poured into a rapidly rotating mold. The immense G-force pushes the denser metal to the outside, forcing lighter impurities, gas, and porosity to the inner bore, which is later machined away.

The result is a worm wheel blank that is:

  • Extremely Dense: A fine-grained, non-porous microstructure.

  • Mechanically Superior: Higher tensile strength and fatigue resistance.

  • Flawless: Free from internal defects that could lead to premature failure.

Precision Machining for Perfect Gear Meshing

A superior material is only as good as its machining. Our manufacturing process ensures perfect geometry for smooth, quiet, and efficient operation.

  1. Rough Machining: The centrifugal casting is machined to near-net shape, removing all impurities.

  2. Precision Gear Hobbing: The gear teeth are cut on specialized CNC gear hobbing machines to achieve the precise involute profile required to mate perfectly with the worm.

  3. Final Machining: The bore, keyways, and faces are machined to tight tolerances for a perfect fit on the shaft.

  4. Complete Worm and Wheel Sets: We can also supply the complete, matched set, including the hardened and ground steel worm, to guarantee optimal contact and performance.

Applications in Heavy Industry

Our heavy-duty bronze worm wheels are trusted components in:

  • Steel Mill Equipment: Cooling beds, rolling mill reducers, coiler drives.

  • Mining: Hoist gearboxes, conveyor drive reducers, shovel swing drives.

  • Lifting & Hoisting: Crane and elevator gearboxes.

  • Marine: Steering gear, winch drives.

  • General Heavy Machinery: High-torque industrial reducers.
