Product Description

Precision Engineered for Reliable Linear Motion

A rack and pinion system is the core of many linear motion applications, converting rotary motion from a motor into smooth, accurate linear movement. In industrial settings—from CNC machines to heavy equipment—these components must withstand high loads and deliver repeatable accuracy over millions of cycles.

Yile Machinery is a specialist manufacturer of custom, heavy-duty rack and pinion sets. We engineer our gear racks and pinions for superior strength, exceptional wear resistance, and the high precision your application demands.

Manufacturing for Precision and Durability

The performance of a rack and pinion is determined by the quality of its manufacturing. Our process is optimized for strength and accuracy.

  1. Superior Material Selection: We begin with high-quality certified steel bar stock, chosen for the application's load requirements. Common materials include:

    • C45 / S45C: An excellent choice for standard load applications.

    • 42CrMo (AISI 4140): A high-strength alloy steel for heavy loads and high-performance machinery.

  2. Precision Gear Cutting:

    • Using modern CNC milling or gear hobbing machines, we cut the gear teeth to precise specifications. We maintain tight control over the key parameters that ensure smooth meshing:

      • Module or Diametral Pitch (DP)

      • Pressure Angle (e.g., 20°)

      • Tooth Profile (Spur or Helical)

  3. Critical Heat Treatment for Wear Resistance:

    • To ensure long service life, the gear teeth are hardened using processes like induction hardening or case hardening. This creates an extremely hard, wear-resistant surface on the teeth while keeping the core of the rack tough and ductile to absorb shock loads.

  4. Precision Grinding (for High-Accuracy Applications):

    • For applications demanding the highest level of precision and quiet operation, we offer profile grinding of the teeth after they have been hardened. This process corrects any minor distortions from heat treatment and produces a superior surface finish and tooth profile accuracy.

Customization to Your Exact Specifications

We manufacture rack and pinion systems to your exact design requirements.

  • Gear Profile: Spur racks for simple, high-load systems; Helical racks for smoother, quieter operation at high speeds.

  • Module / Pitch: We can machine a wide range of standard and custom modules (e.g., M1 to M20).

  • Material & Hardness: Specified to meet your load and life cycle requirements.

  • Length & Mounting: Racks can be produced in long, continuous lengths with mounting holes machined to your drawings.

  • Matching Pinions: We manufacture the corresponding hardened and ground pinion to ensure a perfect-meshing, high-performance set.

Quality Assurance and Inspection

Every gear rack is subject to strict quality control to guarantee its performance.

  • Tooth Profile & Pitch Inspection: Verification of gear geometry.

  • Hardness Testing: To confirm the effectiveness of the heat treatment process.

  • Full Dimensional Verification: Ensuring all features, including mounting holes, are to specification.

  • Material Certification: Full traceability of the materials used.

Applications

Our heavy-duty rack and pinion systems are used in a variety of demanding machines and equipment:

  • CNC Gantry Routers, Plasma, and Laser Cutters

  • Heavy Equipment Steering Systems

  • Industrial Automation & Robotics

  • Lift Mechanisms & Elevators

  • Machine Tool Actuators

  • Telescoping Booms
