The Smart Solution for Reduced Downtime in Large Rotary Machinery Maintenance

Yile Machinery is a specialist manufacturer of custom-engineered segmented (split) girth gears. Designed for large-scale equipment like rotary kilns, ball mills, and mine hoists, our segmented gears solve the immense challenge of installation and replacement. By splitting the gear into manageable sections, we eliminate the need for complete machine disassembly, saving you hundreds of hours in downtime and labor costs.

We manufacture these critical components from high-strength forged or cast steel to ensure maximum reliability and service life in the most demanding industrial environments.

The Segmented Design Advantage: A Revolution in Maintenance

A segmented girth gear offers unparalleled benefits over traditional single-piece rings:

  • Drastically Reduced Downtime: Replace individual worn segments or the entire gear without removing the drum, shell, or primary structure. This can turn a weeks-long shutdown into a matter of days.

  • Simplified Logistics and Handling: Smaller, lighter segments are easier, safer, and cheaper to transport, lift, and maneuver into position compared to a massive, single-piece gear.

  • Precision and Interchangeability: Each segment is precision-machined from a single design file, ensuring a perfect fit with its neighbors and allowing for the replacement of a single damaged section in the future.

Manufacturing Excellence for Mission-Critical Gears

The reliability of a segmented gear depends entirely on the quality of its manufacturing. We control every stage of the process to guarantee a perfect fit and long-term performance.

  1. Material Selection (Forged or Cast): Based on your application and specifications, we utilize:

    • High-Strength Forged Steel: Grades like 42CrMo (AISI 4140) offer superior toughness and fatigue resistance due to their refined grain structure. Ideal for the highest shock-load applications.

    • High-Quality Cast Steel: Specialized gear casting alloys like ZG42CrMo provide excellent strength and can be formed into complex shapes.

  2. Precision Machining:

    • Each segment is individually machined on large-scale CNC milling centers and VTLs (Vertical Turret Lathes).

    • Mating faces are precision-ground to ensure a seamless, rigid connection when bolted together.

    • Gear teeth are cut using high-precision CNC hobbing or milling to ensure accurate profiling and smooth meshing.

  3. Advanced Heat Treatment:

    • The entire gear may be normalized or quenched and tempered to achieve the desired core strength.

    • The gear teeth are then surface hardened (typically via induction hardening) to achieve a high wear-resistance of 50-55 HRC, while the core of the tooth remains ductile to absorb impact.

  4. Rigorous Quality Assurance:

    • We perform a full trial assembly in our workshop to guarantee perfect alignment and circularity.

    • Comprehensive NDT (Ultrasonic and Magnetic Particle testing) is used to ensure the material is free of defects.

    • Full dimensional inspection (CMM) and hardness testing reports are provided.

Key Applications

Our segmented girth gears are essential components for:

  • Cement & Mining: Rotary kilns, ball mills, grinding mills, and rotary dryers.

  • Mining & Material Handling: Large mine hoists, stacker-reclaimers, and shovel slewing systems.

  • Marine & Offshore: Crane slewing rings, mooring systems, and winch drums.

  • Power Generation: Coal pulverizer mills.
