Product Description
Furnace rolls, also known as hearth rolls, operate in one of the most hostile industrial environments imaginable: inside steel reheating and heat treatment furnaces at temperatures up to 1250°C (2280°F). These critical components must transport slabs, blooms, and billets while resisting extreme heat, oxidation, and mechanical stress without sagging or failing.
Yile Machinery produces high-performance furnace rolls engineered for maximum service life and reliability in walking beam furnaces, pusher-type furnaces, and continuous annealing lines.
A furnace roll is a composite component precision-engineered for its dual-function role. The manufacturing process combines the best methods for each section of the roll:
Centrifugally Cast Roll Body: The roll body, which is in direct contact with the furnace atmosphere and product, is manufactured using centrifugal casting. This process creates an extremely dense, fine-grained, and defect-free structure. This is essential for achieving superior high-temperature strength (creep resistance) and resistance to oxidation.
Forged Shafts / Journals: The shafts that extend outside the furnace to the bearings and drive system are made from forged steel (e.g., 42CrMo). Forging provides the toughness and strength needed to handle torque and bearing loads at lower ambient temperatures.
Expert Welding & Machining: The centrifugally cast body and forged shafts are joined by specialized welding techniques, followed by a post-weld heat treatment to relieve all stresses. The entire assembly is then precision machined to ensure perfect balance and concentricity for smooth, vibration-free operation.
The selection of the correct alloy is the most critical factor in furnace roll performance. We manufacture rolls from a range of specialized heat-resistant alloys:
Heat-Resistant Austenitic Steels (e.g., 1.4848 / HK40, 1.4852): These are the industry standard for many furnace applications, offering a good balance of strength and oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1100°C.
Cobalt-Based Superalloys (e.g., UMCo50): For the most extreme temperatures and demanding conditions, cobalt-based alloys like UMCo50 provide the ultimate performance. They offer exceptional creep strength at temperatures above 1150°C and superior resistance to high-temperature corrosion and slag adhesion.
High Creep Strength: Resists bending and sagging under load at extreme temperatures.
Excellent Oxidation Resistance: Ensures a long service life in aggressive furnace atmospheres.
Superior Thermal Fatigue Resistance: Withstands the stress of repeated heating and cooling cycles.
Dimensional Stability: Precision balancing and machining ensure smooth transport of steel products, preventing surface defects.
Custom Design: Manufactured to OEM or custom specifications for a perfect fit in your furnace.
