A worm drive is a compact and efficient gear system composed of a worm (the screw) and a worm gear (the wheel). It is renowned for its ability to achieve high gear reduction ratios and transmit motion at a 90-degree angle.

The Worm Gear (or Worm Wheel):
The worm gear is typically manufactured from a bronze alloy (such as Aluminum Bronze or Tin Bronze). This material is chosen for its excellent properties when running against a steel worm: low friction, high wear resistance, and the ability to "wear in" rather than galling. We use precision CNC gear hobbing to create the exact tooth profile required to match the worm.
The Worm Shaft:
The worm shaft is the input component and must withstand high rotational and contact stresses. We manufacture our worms from high-strength alloy steels (e.g., 42CrMo4 / AISI 4140) . The shaft is machined and then the worm threads are precision ground. To ensure maximum durability, the worm is typically hardened and tempered for superior surface hardness and a tough core.
