Product Description
The main shaft is the backbone of a wind turbine's drivetrain, a critical "no-fail" component that transfers immense torque from the rotor hub to the gearbox. Its reliability is paramount to the turbine's performance and operational life.
Yile Machinery is a specialized manufacturer of large-scale, open-die forged main shafts, engineered to withstand the extreme stresses and fatigue loads inherent in wind power generation. We produce shafts for both onshore and offshore turbines according to precise customer specifications.
The wind turbine main shaft operates under a complex combination of forces:
High Torsional Loads: Transferring rotational energy from the blades.
Massive Bending Moments: Supporting the weight of the massive rotor assembly.
Cyclic Fatigue: Enduring constant variations in wind speed and direction over a 20+ year design life.
Only a component manufactured through a meticulously controlled forging and machining process can meet these demands.
We manage the entire production process to ensure the highest levels of quality and metallurgical integrity.
Material Selection & Certification: We begin with certified high-strength alloy steel ingots, typically 42CrMo4 (1.7225, AISI 4140/4142) or 34CrNiMo6 (1.6582, AISI 4340) , known for their exceptional strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance.
Open-Die Forging: The ingot is heated and forged to shape. This process refines the steel's internal grain structure, eliminating porosity and aligning the grain flow for maximum strength and impact resistance.
Specialized Heat Treatment: The forged shaft undergoes a controlled Quenching and Tempering (Q&T) process to achieve the precise balance of hardness, tensile strength, and toughness required by the design specifications.
Precision CNC Machining: Using large-capacity CNC lathes and milling centers, we machine the heat-treated forging to its final dimensions. This includes creating bearing journals, flanges, and internal bores with exacting tolerances.
Rigorous Quality Assurance: Every main shaft is subjected to a comprehensive inspection protocol, including:
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) to guarantee the shaft is free from any internal or surface defects.
Full Dimensional Inspection: Using CMMs and laser trackers to verify all dimensions.
Mechanical Property Verification.
Materials: 42CrMo4, 34CrNiMo6, and other customer-specified alloy steels.
Maximum Forged Weight: Up to 40 Tons.
Maximum Length: Up to 15 meters.
Applications: Main shafts for turbines from kilowatt-class to multi-megawatt platforms.
Compliance: Manufactured according to international standards and customer-specific quality plans.
