Product Description

Engineered Heads for Tanks, Boilers, and Process Vessels

Yile Machinery is a specialist fabricator of custom dished heads for pressure vessels, storage tanks, and boilers. We manufacture a wide range of head types from certified carbon and alloy steels, engineered to meet the stringent demands of industries such as oil & gas, chemical processing, and power generation.

Our focus on material integrity, precise forming, and adherence to industry standards ensures every head we produce provides the safety and reliability your project demands.

Types of Dished Heads We Fabricate

We can form heads to your exact specifications, with the most common types including:

  • Torispherical Heads (or F&D Heads): The most common type of head for pressure vessels operating at pressures up to 15 bar (200 psi). They offer an excellent balance of strength and cost-effectiveness.

  • Elliptical Heads (or 2:1 Ellipsoidal): With a deeper profile, elliptical heads are stronger than torispherical heads and are preferred for higher-pressure applications.

  • Hemispherical Heads: The strongest of all head shapes, ideal for very high-pressure vessels, though typically the most expensive to form.

Manufacturing Process for Superior Quality & Compliance

Our manufacturing process is controlled at every stage to ensure the final product meets or exceeds your specifications.

  1. Material Selection & Certification: We start with high-quality pressure vessel grade steel plates, such as ASME SA-516-70, which is ideal for moderate and lower-temperature service. Full material traceability and Mill Test Reports (MTRs) are provided.

  2. Forming Process: Depending on the thickness and diameter, heads are formed using:

    • Cold Spinning: For thinner plates, this process progressively forms the plate into the desired dished shape.

    • Hot Pressing: For thicker plates, the steel is heated to a precise temperature and formed using a die press.

  3. Welding & Edge Preparation: For heads larger than a single plate, sections are expertly welded using certified procedures. We then machine the edge with a precise weld bevel to facilitate easy and high-quality welding to your vessel shell.

  4. Heat Treatment (PWHT): Post-weld heat treatment is performed in a calibrated furnace to relieve stresses induced during the forming and welding process, improving the head's toughness and dimensional stability.

Rigorous Quality Assurance for Pressure-Tight Integrity

Safety is paramount. Every head undergoes a strict quality control regimen:

  • Compliance: Manufactured to meet standards like the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Welds and parent material are inspected using Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Liquid Penetrant (PT) to ensure they are free of defects.

  • Dimensional Verification: We perform a full dimensional layout to confirm the head's profile, diameter, and straight flange meet drawing tolerances.

  • Full Documentation: A complete Manufacturer's Data Report (MDR) can be provided, including material certificates, heat treatment charts, NDT reports, and dimensional inspection records.
