Product Description

Yile Machinery is a specialist manufacturer of custom integral pinion shafts for high-performance power transmission systems. By integrating the pinion gear directly onto the shaft, we create a monolithic component with superior strength, rigidity, and rotational accuracy. We manage the entire manufacturing process to deliver a finished part that is ready for assembly in your most demanding industrial applications.

The Integral Pinion Shaft Advantage

Combining the gear and shaft into a single forged piece offers significant engineering benefits:

  • Maximum Strength & Torque Capacity: Eliminates the risk of failure at a keyway or press-fit, allowing for higher torque transmission.

  • Superior Concentricity: Machining the gear teeth and bearing journals in one setup ensures near-perfect alignment, resulting in reduced vibration and quieter operation.

  • Increased Rigidity: A solid shaft is more rigid than an assembled component, reducing deflection under load and maintaining precise gear mesh.

A Complete Manufacturing Process for a Superior Component

The performance of a pinion shaft is determined by the quality of its manufacturing. Our tightly controlled, multi-stage process ensures exceptional durability and precision.

  1. Material Selection & Forging: We start with high-grade alloy steels such as 42CrMo (AISI 4140) , 40Cr, or 34CrNiMo6. The material is forged to create an optimized grain structure, dramatically increasing its strength and fatigue resistance compared to standard bar stock.

  2. Rough Machining & CNC Turning: The forged blank is rough-machined and then precision-turned on CNC lathes to create the basic shaft profile, including steps for bearing seats and seals.

  3. Gear and Spline Cutting: Using advanced CNC gear hobbing or shaping machines, we cut the pinion teeth, splines, and any other required drive features with high precision.

  4. Advanced Heat Treatment: The shaft undergoes a tailored heat treatment process—such as induction hardening or carburizing and quenching—to create an extremely hard, wear-resistant surface on the gear teeth (typically 58-62 HRC) while maintaining a tough, ductile core to absorb shock loads.

  5. Precision Grinding: This is the critical final step. The heat-treated shaft is finished on high-precision grinding machines:

    • Cylindrical Grinding: The bearing journals and sealing surfaces are ground to a fine surface finish and exacting diameter tolerances.

    • Gear Grinding: The tooth profiles are precision ground to correct any minor distortions from heat treatment, ensuring a perfect tooth profile for maximum efficiency and low noise.

Reverse Engineering for Critical Replacements

Do you have a failed pinion shaft and no drawing? We are your solution.

Our expert reverse engineering service is essential for maintenance and repair operations. We can accurately replicate your existing part from a sample, even if it's broken or heavily worn. We will analyze the material, measure all critical dimensions, and create a new manufacturing drawing to produce a replacement that meets or exceeds the original's performance.

Applications

Our custom pinion shafts are the driving force in a wide array of machinery:

  • Industrial Gearboxes and Reducers

  • Pump Drives

  • Compressors

  • Construction & Mining Equipment

  • Extruders and Mixers

  • Rail & Transit Drive Axles
